Brazil Potash CEO, Matt Simpson, was recently interviewed by the American radio station Brownfield AG News, a network specialized in agricultural sector information, where he addressed the current challenges and risks facing the global fertilizer market, particularly in light of geopolitical tensions and the concentration of supply in just a few countries.
During the interview, Simpson pointed out that one of the main risks to potash supply security lies precisely in the concentration of production in nations facing sanctions or involved in armed conflicts, such as Russia, Belarus, and Israel, responsible for approximately 50% of the world’s total potash production.
According to him, the current geopolitical scenario, marked by conflicts and trade restrictions involving major producers, reinforces the need for agricultural countries to invest in their own fertilizer production capacity.
In this context, Simpson highlighted Brazil’s strategic position: in addition to the strength of its agribusiness, the country has significant potential to develop local potash production, reducing its external dependence and contributing to global food security.
